Dr. Nicholas Luke is a board-certified pediatric dentist who specializes in creating healthy smiles for infants, children, teens, and young adults. Smiles in Motion uses a patient-centered approach that always puts our patients first, so you and your child can have a positive experience every time you visit us.
Consider Dr. Luke to be a pediatrician for your child’s teeth—after all, oral health is a big contributor to your child’s total health. Like all pediatric dentists, Dr. Luke has 2-3 years of additional training beyond dental school that focuses solely on treating children from birth through adolescence. We know and understand the unique needs of children, including how to communicate with them. The Smiles in Motion office in Menomonie is at 3120 Schneider Avenue SE, near the Mayo Clinic. We proudly serve Menomonie area schools, including Wakanda Elementary and Menomonie Middle School. We also have patients who attend Kool Kids Day Care, Menomonie Day Care, Little Sprouts, and many other local daycare facilities.

In addition to our patient-centered approach, you will also find interactive games, screens in every exam area so your child can watch their favorite movie or show—even free Wi-Fi and refreshments for parents. We do everything we can to provide a fun, happy experience from start to finish.
We can’t wait to meet you! Here’s what you can expect
Infant visit (age one)
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends seeing a dentist for the first time by age one–even the tiniest of teeth need professional care. Your pediatric specialist will assess the growth and development of your child’s mouth (including any thumb-sucking or pacifier habits) and provide tips to help you keep their smile clean and healthy.
Toddlers and preschoolers
We do not expect your child to sit in a dental chair on their own or fully cooperate until at least preschool age, and it’s perfectly normal for young children to cry. Don’t worry, we’ve got this! Your care provider will likely perform a lap-to-lap or knee-to-knee examination with a parent or caregiver’s help, providing reassurance along the way.
Elementary to young adult
These are critical years for building a positive attitude about dental care, so we do everything we can to make your child feel welcome and comfortable during their visit. Your pediatric dentist will explain things in age-appropriate terms and show the instruments they’ll be using. And of course, parents are always welcome in the room.
